Voluma® The longest-lasting filler of its kind – now made available in the U.S.
As a National Trainer for Allergan®, I was in San Diego a month ago and was one of the first medical practitioners to learn about Al- lergan’s® new dermal filler, Voluma® (Allergan® is the maker of Botox® & Juvederm®). It is the first and only FDA-approved filler to temporarily correct age-related volume loss, specifically in the cheek area. It has been used in Europe since 2005.
As people age, one of the biggest areas where people lose volume is the cheek area. This loss of volume causes the patient’s cheeks to flatten out, and the end result is that your skin then sags and droops. Correcting volume loss in the cheek area helps to restore structure and creates a more youthful appearance.
Previously when using dermal fill- ers on my patients, the focus has been on filling the nasolabial folds. That is still an area of concern; but now we are looking more at the cheek area to re- store that lost volume which will “pick up” the face again.
Why Is Voluma® Different?
Voluma® is made up of hyaluronic acid (HA) like most other fillers on the market, such as Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvederm®; but Voluma® is formulated using VYCROSS™ technology that produces more lift and a longer duration than the other dermal fillers on the market. Other fillers are effective and designed to fill and smooth wrinkles, whereas Voluma® is effective in restoring lost facial volume.
You can see the results of Voluma® immediately, and one of the most exciting things about Voluma is that results can last up to two years. I have been injecting many types of dermal fillers for these past 12 years, and I must say I am very excited about offering Voluma® to our patients.
As with Juvederm® or the other dermal fillers, side effects identified by the FDA study included bruising, tenderness and swelling as most common. Voluma® also contains lidocane, but a topical anesthetic is applied 15 minutes before for optimal comfort.
The combination of dermal fillers, Botox®, and skin rejuvenation technology, such as the eMatrix®, will give you synergistic results that are amazing. Add to that medicalgrade retinol and a good vitamin C product and your face will look even more youthful by decreasing wrinkles and pigmentation.
Trust Your Medical Practitioner
Visit www.allergan.com to find a provider that has been trained on this new injectable Voluma® (I am actually a trainer to local doctors and other medical practitioners on how to inject Voluma®). What I like most about Voluma® is the natural look that you can achieve, with immediate results that last up to 2 years.
I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about why and how the face loses volume as we grow older and whether Voluma® is a solution to make you look as young as you feel.
